` I realized this when I looked up one morning to find this outside the bathroom door!
` Apparently, the yellowish stuff is wallpaper glue, from the painted-over wallpaper stuck to the ceiling. When the ceiling gets wet, the glue finds a way to seep through and drip on the floor, thus making lovely little yellow dots everywhere!` And, because there is no ventilation in this dump, well, the steam from the shower drifts upward from the doorway, setting off the smoke alarm every time! However, I have not yet determined whether or not the glue actually inhibits the mildew.

Well, I hope for your sake that its what you think it may be. I've never seen any wallpaper paste with color like that, its usually clear. I think that much of the color comes from the iron in pipes and nails used to construct the place. I'm inclined to believe that the upstairs is either leaking, or because of temperature and humidity, is condensing enough water to rust the iron and drip down to the ceiling. Or it could just be leaking urine and other "material." Mildew is usually kind of fuzzy looking due to the way it grows.
